The First Spanish Diploma: A1 Level

Passing offa DELE testcan start with itA1 level, because this is the first level that can be tested.

Taking an exam to earn a foreign language certificate is a good way to take your first steps in the Spanish-speaking world. Then you can work on your weaknesses and strengths.

This first level means you are able toto communicatewith simple vocabulary, within the themes of daily life (your identity, your age, your hobbies, etc.).

This exam consists of several test categories, divided into two different groups:

Reading and writing skills:

  • Reading comprehension: 45 minutes, four categories;
  • Writing skills: 25 minutes, two categories.

Oral skills:

  • Listening skills: 20 minutes, four categories;
  • Speaking skills and interaction: 15 minutes.

To obtain an A1 level diploma, you must be in each categoryat least thirty out of fifty pointspass (reading and writing skills and oral skills). Then if you succeed, you will receive yourDELE A1diploma.

The Next Step In Your Spanish Course: Dele B1 Level

Have you mastered the spelling and do you know the Spanish conjugations? Then it's time for the next level in your Spanish course.

According to the skills you need inLevel B1can you:

  • Ofunderstand contextof fairly simple Spanish texts (noLatin American Spanishor the difficult Catalan) on usual topics;
  • Ofask directionsand help you during a trip (ask for an address, order in a restaurant, etc.) in a Spanish country;
  • Write short textsabout topics that interest you and that are about your hobbies, for example;
  • Describe experiences and events, express wishes and ambitions, give your opinion on matters.

The composition of the exam for the Dele B1 certificate is as follows:

Reading and writing skills:

  • Reading comprehension: 1 hour and 10 minutes, five exercises;
  • Written interaction and expression: 1 hour, two exercises.

Oral skills:

  • Listening skills: 40 minutes, five exercises;
  • Speaking skills: 15 minutes + 15 minutes preparation.

The system is the same as at the A1 level: you have to get thirty points out of the fifty points per category, and sohave at least sixty points out of one hundredto get the diploma.

Part Spanish Certificate: B2 Level

ItB2-levelis often asked if you wantwork or do an internshipin a Spanish speaking country.

The level declares that you can do the following, among other things:

  • Communicate with Spanish speakersbe able to have natural conversations without any effort and in a fluent manner;
  • Clear andwrite detailed texts on varied topics. Being able to give your opinion on general themes and defend them;
  • The context ofcomplex, concrete, abstract and technical textsthat are associated with your professional domain.

The test will be longer again! You must earn your B2 level.

Reading and writing skills:

  • Reading comprehension: 1 hour and 10 minutes, four exercises;
  • Writing skills: 1 hour and 20 minutes, two exercises.

Oral skills:

  • Listening skills: 40 minutes, five exercises;
  • Speaking skills: 20 minutes + 20 minutes preparation.

The final grade is'suitable'of'inefficient'. To qualify as a final grade, you must again meet the same criteria: at least thirty out of fifty points in each of the categories.

Remember that theDELE a general Spanish language certificateis. If you want to take a test more applicable to business or education, consider taking theSIELE Spanish proficiency testto pass.

Speaking Spanish Level: Dele C1 Level

You have studied in a Spanish-speaking country and now know the culture of Spain and South America. You want to have formal proof that you are more advanced than before.

Your language skills according to the C1 level are good enough to:

  • Long textwith a certain degree of difficulty to understand;
  • Yourselfexpress it in a fluent and spontaneous wayand without any difficulty in finding the right expression;
  • Use language efficientlyin your social, academic and professional environment;
  • Structured anddetailed texts on complex topicsto write, using organizational techniques, articulation, coherence, as if it were your mother tongue.

As with the other levels, the DELE C1 has two parts that each take a different amount of time:

Reading and writing skills:

  • Reading comprehension and language use: 1 hour and 30 minutes, five exercises;
  • Writing skills: 50 minutes, five exercises.

Oral skills:

  • Listening skills: 20 minutes and 20 minutes preparation;
  • Speaking skills and interaction: 20 minutes and 20 minutes preparation.

The minimum score is always the same: minimumthirty points out of the maximum fifty points. For each category and therefore sixty points out of one hundred for the entire exam.

The Highest Spanish Level: Dele C2 Level

Are you preparing for an exam to become a teacher? It is very likely that you will already be fluent in Spanish and that you will be able to deal efficiently with all linguistic situations and that you will be able to express yourself spontaneously in all contexts.

Go for the official C2 level certificate! In this context you mustthree teststo receive your DELE C2:

  • Language use, reading comprehension and listening skills: 1 hour and 45 minutes, six exercises;
  • Integrated skills: listening comprehension, reading comprehension, written expression and interaction (2 hours and 30 minutes, three exercises);
  • Full skills: reading comprehension, oral interaction (20 minutes and 30 minutes preparation).

The maximum mark that can be obtained on the exam is one hundred points. One must achieve at least sixty percent for each category. You therefore need at least twenty points for each of the three test categories.

After reaching C2, there is no further step in the DELE program. This is not a problem becauseC2declares that you have the same level as a so-callednative speaker.

Spanish For Youth: Junior Dele A1, A2 and B1

Are you a Spanish teacher? Then your students may take the Junior A1 and A2 or B1 exams.

These exams are intended for young people ofeleven to seventeen yearswho study Spanish. The exams are therefore adapted to candidates of that age.

They consist offour test categories:reading comprehension, listening skills, writing skillsinfluency.

This first level offersbasic language skillsto understand and use simple everyday sentences.

Students of these two levels take the same exam, but depending on the score on the exam, students receive A2 or B1 as their level.

The DELE is an official certificate that can be used to define in one test to which level a student belongs. This diploma does not expire and is valid for life. The student does not have to take the exam again if they are over seventeen years old.
